Nocturna Dress

A floor-length strapless dress in fine blue mesh, shot through with a faint shimmer that only shows when the light moves. The Nocturna is built on an integrated bodysuit: opaque where it needs to be, then dissolving into sheer mesh from the thigh down, so the dress reads as one long column of colour rather than a lining you have to think about.

Because the bodysuit is part of the dress, there is nothing to layer and nothing to adjust. The mesh has enough stretch to follow the body and enough weight to fall straight rather than cling, and the straight strapless neckline stays level.

Bahama Mama designs from the Colombian Caribbean coast, where a dress has to work at a beach bar at seven and at a dinner table at eleven. The Nocturna does both.

Polyester mesh with a subtle shimmer finish. Integrated bodysuit in the same fabric, so the dress is worn on its own.

Hand wash cold and separately, with a mild detergent. Do not bleach, do not wring and do not tumble dry. Reshape and dry flat in the shade. Iron only on the lowest setting through a cloth, and keep the mesh away from rough surfaces and jewellery clasps.

Designed on the Colombian Caribbean coast and produced in small runs.

Strapless, floor-length and close to the body, with a built-in bodysuit that finishes at mid-thigh; below that the mesh is sheer.

The fabric stretches, so the dress follows the figure without needing shapewear underneath. Nothing extra is required over a swimsuit either — the bodysuit already does that job.

By day, flat leather sandals and wet hair. At night, a heeled sandal, gold earrings and a small shoulder bag. Because the whole silhouette is one colour, it takes bold jewellery well.
