Titipan Cover Up

A full-length mesh cover-up in blue and lilac, knitted in soft horizontal bands so the colour shifts as the fabric falls. The Titipan opens in a deep V at the neck and widens through the sleeve, and that is where its shape comes from: it moves like a kaftan but stays closer to the body, and it runs long enough to reach the ankle.

The mesh is fine and semi-sheer — enough to let the swimsuit read through without putting it on display — and it weighs almost nothing. It packs flat into a beach bag and dries within minutes of coming out of the water.

Over a bikini it is a cover-up; over trousers and a bralette it is simply a long shirt.

Polyester mesh, unlined and semi-sheer.

Hand wash cold with a mild detergent, or machine wash on a delicate cycle inside a laundry bag. Do not bleach, do not wring and do not tumble dry. Reshape and dry flat in the shade. Iron only on the lowest setting through a cloth, and keep the mesh away from rings, clasps and rough surfaces.

Long, loose and ankle-skimming, with a deep V-neck and wide sleeves that flare from the elbow. It is semi-sheer, so what you wear underneath is part of the look.

Over a bikini with flat sandals it is beach to lunch without a change of clothes. Over a plain swimsuit and slim trousers it works at dinner. Belted at the waist it turns into a dress shape.

Because it is unlined and very light, it dries fast and packs into almost nothing — the piece to keep at the top of the suitcase.
