Tropical Coral Earrings

Branching red coral, worked entirely in glass beads. Each earring is built from fine beaded stems that split and taper the way real coral does, edged in tiny gold beads that catch the light down the whole length, and hung from a beaded gold rosette at the ear.

They are long — they graze the shoulder — and they still weigh almost nothing, because there is no metal in the drop at all. Only beads, thread and hours of work, which is why no two branches sit exactly the same.

DEARLY works with indigenous women artisans in Colombia, pairing a beading craft passed down through generations with shapes cut for a contemporary wardrobe. The result reads as sculpture rather than souvenir.

Keep away from water, perfume, creams and hairspray, and put them on last when you get dressed. Store them flat rather than hanging, so the beaded branches keep their shape. Clean only with a soft dry cloth; never submerge them.
